Introduction To Hainan Arbitration Association

The Hainan Provincial Arbitration Association is a professional, non-profit legal entity, initiatively formed by arbitration institutions in Hainan Province, individuals in Hainan qualified as arbitrators, and other organizations and individuals engaged in arbitration practice, theoretical research, and professional services. The Association was established in April 2024 and is registered with the Civil Affairs Department of Hainan Province, under the supervision of the Hainan Provincial Department of Justice. The Association aims to strengthen self-regulation in the arbitration industry, enhance industry exchanges, promote research, advance the development of arbitration, protect the legal rights of its members, and build a sound arbitration order.

As of April 2024, the membership of Hainan Provincial Arbitration Association includes one arbitration institution and one other organization engaged in arbitration practice, theoretical research, and professional services (unit members), along with 50 individuals (personal members) appointed as arbitrators by HNAA and other professions. The General Assembly of Members is the highest authority of the Association, while the Board of Directors, consisting of nine elected members, serves as the executive body responsible for leading the daily operations and reporting to the General Assembly. The Association also has three working committees and three professional committees.

The establishment of the Hainan Provincial Arbitration Association is a significant step in actively developing an International Commercial Arbitration Center facing the Pacific and Indian Oceans as part of Hainan's Free Trade Port initiative. It plays a unique role in promoting the professionalization, standardization, and internationalization of arbitration work in Hainan's Free Trade Port, enhancing the professional capabilities, ethical standards, and conduct of arbitration practitioners, exploring improvements to arbitration legal frameworks, and expanding both the domestic and international influence of Hainan's arbitration services.
